What is Tendo (天道)?

Tendo is the Path (道 Tao) that leads us back to Heaven. Heaven is the homeland of all spirits, the eternal world known as Ritenkai (理天界). Our spirits originally dwelled in that world, living joyfully together with Laomu, the Source of all spirits.

But one day, Laomu thought,“If I keep my children in Ritenkai forever, they will never grow.” So, from nothingness, the universe was given birth. Heaven and earth were created, and spirits were given physical bodies and sent to the earth to learn and mature. Although the children did not wish to leave Heaven, Laomu promised them, “I will surely come to bring you home. Until then, grow into your full and noble selves.”

Since that time, to guide the proper growth of the spirit, the Seven Gods first appeared to show the way. In each age that followed, the Divine Mandate (天命 tenmei) was entrusted to virtuous kings and sages. Through them, Laomu’s will was conveyed to humankind, teaching right living, right being, and right thought. Yet, as time passed, people became trapped by desire and delusion. Their spirits grew impure, and the world fell into disorder.

Now, the time of great purification is coming close for the entire world.

Laomu grieved that the children continuing their earthly training might perish and decided to bring them back to their original Heaven, just as promised.

Once, the Tao back to Heaven was granted only to sages and kings. But now, it has been opened to all people. Those who believe in and seek the Tao can attain it, and their spirits will return to Ritenkai. Tendo is the path of salvation bestowed by the Source of all spirits. Now is the age when everyone can be saved.
